It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Stephanie (Steph) Lea Smith, who left this world far too soon, on December 7th, 2024, at the age of 48. Stephanie was a loving mother, a passionate adventurer, and a gifted artist who touched the hearts of everyone she met with her kindness, creativity, and boundless enthusiasm for life.
Stephanie had a deep love for the outdoors, finding peace and inspiration in nature’s beauty. Whether hiking through the mountains, camping under the stars, or exploring new landscapes, she reveled in the wonders of the natural world. Her love for the outdoors was not only a source of joy, but also a way to connect with others and instill in her children a deep respect for the environment.
A talented photographer, Stephanie, had an eye for capturing life’s fleeting moments. Her camera was always by her side, whether on family trips, traveling to distant countries, or simply observing the beauty of everyday life. Her photos told stories of love, adventure, and the simple, quiet joys that often go unnoticed. She shared her work with others, inspiring many to see the world through a lens of appreciation and awe.
A passionate writer, Stephanie also had a gift for words. She enjoyed documenting her travels, reflecting on her experiences, and sharing her thoughts with others. Through her writing, Stephanie encouraged others to embrace life’s adventures, find beauty in the ordinary, and live with purpose and passion.
Above all, Stephanie was a devoted mother. Her children were her greatest joy, and she poured love, wisdom, and strength into their lives. Whether guiding them through challenges, celebrating their successes, or simply spending time together, Stephanie’s love for her family was evident in everything she did. She will be remembered as a mother who gave everything to her children and who taught them the importance of living fully and embracing each day.
Stephanie’s passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but her spirit will live on through the many lives she touched. She leaves behind her beloved children, Ethan and Eli, her life partner Al Snow, and her former life partner Becky Reichel, as well as two sisters, Jennifer Miller, and Courtney Kowalczyk (Steve Kowalczyk, the brother she always wanted), 10 nieces and nephews, and numerous family members, friends, and all those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Steph lived each day with intention and was always looking for ways to help others. A celebration of Stephanie’s life will be planned for January 10th, details to come later. Stephanie was a philanthropist to many causes. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to one of her favorite charities that she advocated for Hospice of the Valley, Feed My Starving Children, or Sunshine Acres Children’s Home in Stephanie’s honor. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy of love, adventure, creativity, and devotion to family will continue to inspire and guide us. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
