Scott was truly special. Uniquely hilarious and genuine-a really good person. In the face of a serious health crisis he was only more giving of himself. He wanted you to feel ok about it and know that he loved you. We grew much closer as the time grew shorter. I would try to be supportive and he would just be more loving. Through the struggles I knew him to have faced he would always seem to be the best a human being could be as difficulties arose.I will always remember not only his humor, but his never ending generous, loving spirit. Scott was one of those people who will always remain in your memory as a fine example of a true human being. I met Scott through Walgreens working overnights. I remember how kind and wonderful he was. Always putting others before him. Always making work fun. Always putting a smile on everyones face. I have so many wonderful great stories about working with scott and getting to know him. I have been blessed to know him and to have worked with him. He will truly be missed. But I know he is above smiling down on all of us. I will miss you trooper. You were a great friend. My heart goes out to the family and my prayers are with you.

I had the honor of working with mr whitford. I will never forget the first thing he would say. "Good morning trooper" that alone was enough to put you in the best mood you could ever be in. I can recall hour's of conversations we would have on overnight shifts. Those were some of the best conversations, moments, and memories in my life and workplace. Scotty had a way of making you excited for work no matter the circumstances, and tasks at hand. Mr whitford touched so many people. I will always be grateful for the small amount of time I knew him. But in that amount of time he left an impression and lasting memory that will never be forgotten. You will be missed trooper!

Why do we always lose the good guys?  Scott and I were classmates since the fourth grade.  It was one day in sixth grade that Scott was sitting near me in the back making so many of us laugh that the teacher asked if he'd like to come up in front of the class and tell everyone what was so funny. He bolted right up there and just improvised jokes like a pro the whole rest of class. He was in the zone. What a great guy. I got to talk on the phone with Scott a year ago after not being in touch for probably 30 years and it was tough getting a word in because he hadn't changed--jokes and stories. Told me a story about running into each other after a ZZ Top concert in 1983 (I think). I didn't remember any of it, but he recalled everything. I'm so glad I made that call. We miss you Scott.

To the Whitford family, 
I loved Scott. He was always concerned with other people's happiness. We always had a lot of laughs and he never stopped surprising you with his sense of humor. Sometimes he would call me in the middle of the night to tell me that he took a motorcycle ride and enjoyed the view of the mountains or to tell me about the times he spent with his children and how precious that time was. I have a chip in my tibia because of the time he tried to teach me to ride a motorcycle on his 650 Nighthawk. I caught the foot peg on some dirt and wrapped the bike around me and chipped my tibia.  After that, Scott laughed and said "End of Lesson". Whenever I feel that dent in my leg, I think of Scott's nervous laughter, but laughter all the same.  So many memories. Hope to see you October 19. About a year ago, when we were visiting Scott between his chemo treatments, he wanted to take us to the Gilbert Community Baseball complex one evening. As I recall there were about nine ballfields in a circular arrangement with several games in progress at once.  We explored a bit and randomly chose a game to watch.  As we sat on the bleachers, Scott very soon was loudly cheering and encouraging BOTH teams. Before long the rather small group of spectators had joined in and he had persuaded them we should all do "the wave". It was so typical of Scott! As we left the game the players thanked him for the encouragement that made it more fun for everyone and urged him to come again.
We treasure all your memories and thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

We remember Scott's big smile and infectious laugh!  We remember "Cowboy meetings" when he was little, and he and his brothers came to play with our boys. We remember his song, "A Cowboy's Work is Never Done", which he sang when we had a campfire.

We have always appreciated his thoughtfulness.

I am so sorry to hear of Scott's passing! He was a beautiful soul who loves his beautiful wife and family more than you could ever measure! He taught us all how to be a better person just by being in his presence. I consider it an honor to have known Scott and to call him and Mary friend's! His smile and laughter will forever lighten my heart and bring a smile to my face!

Scott was a gentle giant.  Always the first to lend a hand, chime-in  with a wise-crack and an ill-timed story.  He made me understand the importance of enjoying your work and how to manage stress.  We don't have many "Scott's" that cross through our lives, which makes his passing even that much more sad.  Rest in peace buddy, we appreciate your help!

I too was a classmate and friend of Scott's....I remember him cutting up in Government class; when all of us were so bored, you could see Scott with that smirk and twinkle in his eyes and we would bust up laughing. Scott was a really good friend to me in my senior year at Kennedy. I had just moved to Cedar Rapids from overseas and had not grown up with the classmates like everyone else.  Scott quickly befriended me and helped me to assimilate, he was such a sweetheart! I loved his rosy cheeks, so many fond memories. I am saddened by his passing. Blessings to the Families.

Scott didn't know a stranger.  He always had a smirk on his face and a story to tell. We won't forget him, he touched many lives.  My deepest sympathy.

Scott always talked about his family-so much love and pride! He was absolutely one of a kind with that great smile, sense of humor and generosity. We will miss him always.

Mary, Candice, Brandy and Blake, My heart is breaking with your loss.  Please know how much Scott is loved and admired.
