Nancy was born in Le Mars Iowa on October 18th, 1943, she is the daughter of Harley and Margaret Wingert. She was the third of four children n including sister Karen and brothers Chuck and Joe.
As a young girl Nancy’s family moved from Iowa to Minnesota and later in her teens she settled in Arizona. She attended Mesa High School and graduated in 1962 with her best friends Bonnie Blackert Peaton and Sandy Kolb. The girls remained lifelong friends for 59 years. At age 20, in 1963, she married and had two children, son Jim and daughter Jolene. Eight years later in 1971 she remarried. While raising two small children and working full time she went on to graduate from Phoenix College on May 8,1976 with a degree in nursing. Her kind and compassionate nature was perfectly suited for a career in nursing. The day after graduation she gave birth to her third child Heidi. Two years later she gave birth to her fourth child Hollie in 1978. She remarried in 1982 and added two stepsons Len and Danny to the family. In 1997 she married her loving husband John and became a stepmom to his three daughters Kristy, Sharon and Erin.
Nancy was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She had a strong relationship with God and enjoyed spreading His word to all who would listen. She was an accomplished seamstress who enjoyed making the most beautiful blankets and quilts for her family. She loved shopping, baking and listening to music. She got a real kick out of making others laugh and was well known for her silliness. She was notorious for making up words and phrases that were as unique as she was. Her laugh was infectious, and her smile could light up a room. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Nancy’s health was failing for several years. Few people knew the extent to which she suffered. Her indomitable spirit and faith in the Lord kept her pushing through the pain. We find comfort that she is at peace and is in heaven with her parents, brother Chuck, Sister Karen and many other loved ones who left this earth before her.
She is survived by her husband John Hartwig, son Jim Sullivan, daughters Jolene Miller, Heidi Stover and Hollie Herzog. Seventeen grandchildren, Jim Sullivan, Megan Sullivan, Jade Sullivan, Abby Sullivan, Cole Miller, Elyse Dilbeck Stover, Colin Stover, Kaylyn Hagen, Demetrius Herzog, AJ Herzog, Hudson Herzog, Zahara Herzog, Lauren Spector, Alia Hartwig, Emily Spectror, Adriana Valenzuela and Raya Block.
