John Edward Repenning passed away January 20, 2011 at his home in Tempe, AZ. John was preceded in passing by Harriette Fowlkes Givens Repenning, his loving wife of 60 years on May 11, 2010, and his son Walter Spencer Repenning. His son Preston Edward Repenning of Wollaston, MA, survives him.
John was born to Phyllis Page and Clarence Repenning April 15, 1922 in Evanston, IL. He graduated from John Marshall Law School, Chicago, and was admitted to the Illinois State Bar Assn. in 1956. In 2006 he attained Senior Counselor status recognizing his more than 50 years service as an attorney. During his long and distinguished career John managed the real estate departments of Wilson & Co, Chicago; Ling-Tempco-Vaught, Dallas; Allis-Chalmers, Milwaukee; and Ramada Inns International, where he retired in 1988.John served the Army of the United States from 1943 – 1945 in the Persian Gulf Command.
He was an award-winning member of the Valley of the Sun Men’s Garden Club, an avid weaver, and an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing bridge and other table games with Harriette and his friends and family. He will be greatly missed. Suggested memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley and The Nunnenkamp Activities Fund at Friendship Village Tempe.
