Isabel Cruz

Isabel Cruz, 93, of Mesa, AZ, passed away October 19, 2018. She was born on September 27, 1925 in Humacao, Puerto Rico to Angel Agosto and Quintina Fuertes. She moved to Spanish Harlem in 1946 to be closer to her aunt where she started working as a seamstress. In 1949, Isabel met Pedro Cruz at a house party. Shortly thereafter, the two were married. Together, Isabel and Pedro raised 5 children: Zulma S. (Brooks), Pedro L., Douglas, Ronald, and Anna E. Cruz. She was a caregiver, first and foremost, who loved being around and helping people. She was a social butterfly, whose zest for life made her the “life of the party.” Isabel enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, cooking, singing, and dancing. As she got older, she enjoyed traveling, attending parties, and watching a good action movie. She was preceded in death on May 23, 2003 by her loving husband of 53 years, Pedro Cruz. Isabel is survived by her children, and their spouses Vincent, Debra and Bonita; grandchildren, Zulma E. and Christopher Brooks, Elizabeth Perez, Melissa Cruz, Brandon, Brian, Taina, and Christina Cruz; great grandchildren, Madison and Layla Cruz, and Savanna Cruz; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. A funeral service for Isabel will be held at Mariposa Gardens Cemetery Chapel, 6747 E. Broadway Rd, Mesa, AZ 85206.
