He was born on October 9, 1935, the 3rd of 4 children to Claude and Eloise (Walden) Sawyer in Bloomington, Illinois. He and his family moved to various states, settling in Los Angeles, where he graduated from Manual Arts High School in 1954. He joined the US Navy after high school, where he served on submarines. After his honorable service to the country, he then began selling sporting goods in Inglewood, California. He moved to Canoga Park, and began his insurance career with Allstate insurance. He retired from Wells Fargo Investments. He enjoyed sports, coaching baseball, football, basketball, and loved to spend time with his grandchildren.
Donald is survived by his children Larry, Kim, Terry, Stephanie, Holly; grandchildren Michelle, Dennis, Sienna, Jillian, Kieran, Andrew, Alex, Kaydon; ex wife and close friend Sandra Sawyer; sister Beverley Donham and several nieces and nephews. Donald is preceded in death by his son Sean, and siblings Audrey Louise and Claude Jr.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 28 from 9-10 am, followed by funeral service at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park.
