He was a graduate of Young High School and the University of Tennessee and served in the United States Air Force. In 2013 he retired from Maricopa County Superior Court.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John Carter, Sr. and Shirley A. Norris and his grandparents, Earl H. and Leland I. Rison.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 43 years, Linda Shirley Carter; four children, Dennis R. Carter, Jr., (Jennifer) Virginia M. Carr, (Mark) Casey M. Miller (Austin) and Dustin M. Carter; six grandchildren; one great grandchild and second great grandbaby Carter due in June, 2024; Siblings, John H. Carter, Jackie Coffman (friend, James Tishko), Mary Heron (Bill), Donna A. Gurule, Nancy Villavicencio-Carter (Washington), Tammy S. Monelly (Mike), John J. Carter, Jr. (Susan); Step-Siblings, Barry A. Wise, Cindy Gass, and Lisa Marsh; a host of nieces and nephews and other loving family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 12, 2024 from noon to 4:00 p.m. with a funeral service starting at 3 at Lakeshore Mortuary, Mesa, AZ. A celebration of life will be held at A Better Place Forrest in Flagstaff, AZ at later date.
The family would ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in honor of Dennis R. Carter, Sr. to any Alzheimer's Association.
A visitation for Dennis will be held Friday, January 12, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Lakeshore Mortuary, 1815 South Dobson Road, Mesa, AZ 85202.
