David Leon Barker

David Leon Barker Sr., 79, of Gilbert, AZ, passed away, Saturday, May 13, 2017 surrounded by his family and friends . He was born March 18, 1938 in Champaign, IL to Frank Owen and Pauline Ellen [Birdsell] Barker. David attended Champaign Central High School and was in the graduating class of 1956. Shortly before graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy where he proudly served on the USS Yorktown.

He married the love of his life, Judith A. Goken on December 23, 1961 in Champaign, Illinois and together they raised their two sons, David Jr.of Gilbert, AZ and Sean of Frisco, TX. After retiring from the University of Illinois, David and Judy moved to Arizona where he enjoyed golfing, playing cards with friends, and listening to music. Adventures with his grandchildren or showing family and friends new places in Arizona brought him the most joy. David was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Judith; sons, David Barker Jr. and Sean (Krista) Barker; grandson, Ryan (Sarah) Barker; granddaughters, Samantha Barker, Shannon Barker and Sara Barker; brothers, Jim (Kay) Barker, Charles (Connie) Riley and Lee (Lynn) Riley. A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm, Friday, May 19, 2017 at Mariposa Gardens Chapel, 6747 E. Broadway Rd, Mesa AZ 85206.
