Caroline G Carr

Caroline Grace Rohe was born in Ottawa, Illinois to Henry Adam Rohe and Mary Magdalene (Hess) Rohe on 16 May 1925, joining her big brother, Bill, in the Lutheran family emphasizing her valued traits in life; love of God, honesty, respect, and kindness.

During World War II, she married a fellow Ottawa native, 2nd Lieutenant Charles Clay Carr while he was briefly stationed at Marana Air Field, Arizona, with the Army Air Corps. With the toughest job in the Air Force, Carol traveled extensively on their various assignments, and held the family together while Charlie deployed to remote overseas locations flying fighters in support of the Berlin Airlift and flying combat missions in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. She relocated more than 20 times in their 32 years of Air Force life.

Their first son, Jeffrey Charles Carr, was born at Las Vegas Air Force Base, Nevada, in 1950. By the time their second son, Stephen Clay Carr was born in 1955, the base had been renamed, Nellis AFB, “Home of the Fighter Pilot.” Their third child, Melinda Sue Carr, was born in Mesa, Arizona, while they were assigned to Williams AFB.

Following retirement from the Air Force, Charlie and Carol relocated to Mesa, where she eventually earned her realtor’s license and became a broker. She had a second successful career in real estate, known as the “Landlady,” for her innovative approach to putting deals together. Her last real estate sale was to her grandson, Joshua Villone, and his new bride, Heather.

In 2006, she left her house on Rangerider Trail, which she named in 1976, for Mesa’s Good Shepherd Village, where she met many new friends and continued to excel at playing bridge. She wrote she was one of the luckiest women in the world, as the Lord had truly blessed her life. Prayer had always been a powerful force, and the Lord’s Prayer was a daily part of her life since childhood. As she lived through adulthood, the Serenity Prayer was her guideline.

She leaves behind her brother, Bill, three children, four grandsons, and seven great-grandchildren, who called her “Grandma GG.”

Mom signed every card, letter, and note to family with this line, “Love Ya Big.”

Mom, we loved ya big, too.

The family would like to say a special thanks to daughter, Mindy, and daughter-in-law, Sue, Mom’s interchangeable “Angels in Blue Jeans,” for the loving care and devotion dedicated to Mom during the last difficult years of declining health. We would all like to express our sincere appreciation to Mom’s valets, Darla, Jessica, and Jeanne, for their extraordinary support during her stay at Good Shepherd Village.

Services were held graveside at Mariposa Gardens in Mesa on 12 November 2011. A memorial reception will be held at Good Shepherd Village in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mom’s name to Good Shepherd Village, 5848 E University Drive, Mesa, AZ 85205.
