Angela Wickenheiser Muenzner, age 99, passed away peacefully at home in Gilbert, Arizona, on 12/31/21. Angela was born 10/20/1922 in Vibank, SK Canada, the 4th of 11 children. She came to Rochester, MN to study nursing with her best friend, Rose Bolen. The two graduated in 1951, worked and traveled together, and remained lifelong friends. Angela met George Muenzner on the floor of The Lawrence Welk Ballroom in California. They married September 20, 1952, and spent 57 happy years together. Angela worked as a nurse for 35 years. In 1979, the Muenzners began an active retirement in Sun City West, Arizona. Over the years, Angie and George enjoyed numerous visits from her Canadian family, especially her sisters and brothers, and several loving nieces and nephews. They thoroughly enjoyed their time with “Aunt Ang” and Uncle George when they would visit. The Muenzners and Molloys celebrated Christmases, Thanksgivings & Easters together, and special sacraments. Angela and Rose were active in the Catholic Daughters of America and the Ladies Guild at their parish of Our Lady of Lourdes. Angela and George were in a Divine Mercy prayer group led by Fr. Mackert, and they kept a weekly holy hour in honor of the Blessed Sacrament. In March 2013, at nearly 91, Angie moved to The Citadel, Independent Living, in Mesa, Arizona. She settled into a wonderful season of bridge-playing, shopping, and mystery tours with her new friends. As an honorary grandmother, Angie enjoyed years of plays, musicals, and parties, most importantly the weddings and births of the Mary & Terry Ryan and Pat & Patty Molloy children and grandchildren. Her legacy in their families is assured. She moved to the Assisted Care Living at The Citadel on September 30, 2020. She relished and maintained her independence and was known for early arrival to breakfast each morning, earrings, necklaces, and scarves always coordinated. She was regarded by all who knew her as a gracious and gentle lady, always appreciative, thoughtful, and genuinely interested in others. She and George had said a daily rosary their entire marriage and this devotion she maintained until the day she died.
She is predeceased by her parents Raymond and Bernadine Wickenheiser, her sisters Tillie, Sr. Michael, Ann, Sally, and brothers Van, Edward, and Albert. She is survived by siblings Benedict, Dennis, and Doris, their families, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews and their families, as well as the Ryan and Molloy families. She will be greatly missed by her large extended family and friends and the staff at The Citadel.
Her Rosary Vigil will be held at the Mariposa Gardens, 400 S. Power Rd. Mesa, Arizona 85206, on February 16th, 2022, 6-8 PM. Funeral Mass will be at St. Anne Roman Catholic Parish, 440 E.
