William Walter McConnell, 91, of Melbourne, FL passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016. Born in Darby, PA. William joined the United States Marine Corps and served our country honorably during WWII, surviving the Pacific Theater in Iwo Jima, Saipan, Tinian, and Roi-Namur. He also served as a gunnery trainer in the Korean War. He was the recipient of 2 Purple Hearts for his service to the United States.
Mr. McConnell moved to Brevard County from Connecticut in 1990. He worked as an auditor for many years, and also as a computer sales associated for the Sears and Roebuck Company until retiring. He enjoyed sketching, painting, writing and poetry. He enjoyed cruising, where his loved ones say he never met a stranger.
William was preceded in death by his Mother, Rose Small; Father, Charles McConnell, Sister, Ruth McConnell; and Brothers, Vernon, Harold, and Ray McConnell. He is survived by his loving partner of 25 happy years, Rita Garnick; Grandchildren: Amy, James, and Joseph McConnell, Erin, Meagan, and Michael McConnell and great-grandchildren: Colleen and Eric Busch, Taylor, Ella, and Brady McConnell.
Mr. McConnell will receive full military honors and will be inurned at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery on Monday, October 24, 2016.
