Nancy B. Jones

Nancy Booth Jones, 89, devoted wife of Newt Jones and beloved mother of Janis Jones Williams and Jerry Jones, passed away Wednesday, March 30 in Merritt Island. Born in Gainesville in 1921 and raised in Cocoa from the age of six weeks, Nancy was a life-long member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Cocoa. She and Newt attended Cocoa High School together prior to World War II.

Following high school, she received a bachelor's degree from the then Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, before being employed at the Banana River Naval Station. Following the war and Newt's return from the Pacific, she and Newt married and settled in Merritt Island. Nancy would later be employed at Patrick Air Force Base and by Texaco Oil. Active for many years in the community, Nancy loved her time with the Space and Trowel Garden Club, as a Cocoa Elks Lodge Doe, and in politics supporting Newt's successful campaigns for Brevard Tax Collector.

Nancy's passing was preceded by that of Newt, her love and husband for 48 years, her father Ted Booth former Cocoa Postmaster who was born in Cocoa, and her mother Maggie Fagan Booth, who was born in Cedar Key. She was also preceded in death by brother Carroll Booth of Cocoa and sisters Peggy Reese of Miami Springs and Martha Pelham of Cocoa. In addition to Janis and her husband Mike and Jerry and his wife Darlene, Nancy is survived by her grandsons Matthew, Shane and Jake, all of Merritt Island. Additionally, she is survived by nine nieces and nephews and "bunches" of great and great great nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home in Merritt Island. Condolences may be offered at www.wyliebaxleymerrittisland.com.
