The family of Margaret “Peggy” Mary (Wright) Woolf are saddened to announce her passing on August 9,2024. Born September 6, 1951, in Yonkers NY to parents Gregory and Olga (Hichak) Wright, Peggy attended and graduated from Maria Regina High School. From there she made her way out west to Kansas State Teachers College where she met her husband to be Melvin Woolf through mutual friends. They married June 12, 1971. She graduated from Friends University with a teaching degree in 1974.
The Woolf family relocated to Reston, Virginia in 1981 where Peggy was always in volunteer mode whether it was being Girl Scout leader, serving on the PTA, planning all night grad parties, or judging high school diving competitions. She was recognized many times over for her service to community organizations and was a lifetime Girl Scout Member. While her main job was raising her two daughters, she did have a keen eye for detail as a professional proofreader for many years. Many a school paper and college admissions essay crossed her desk for intense scrutiny. Peggy was able to obtain Irish citizenship through extensive family genealogical research and enjoyed travel to the Emerald Isle on four occasions.
Peggy and Mel moved to Merritt Island, Florida where they found that the island life agreed with them. The cruise bug bit. She and Mel enjoyed several Caribbean cruises as well as through the Panama Canal and most recently, Alaska. Peggy was known as ‘the candy bar lady’ on cruises, handing out her favorite treat, a Hershey bar, to employees who wanted one.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Gregory and Olga, her sister and brother-in-law Dolores (Del) and Lewis (Lew) Solimene, and sister-in-law Eileen Wright. She is remembered lovingly by her husband of 53 years, Melvin, daughters Kim (Gavin) Myers and April (Ryan) Barden, grandchildren Jackson, Jordan, Cecilia, Chase, Cora, Ethan, and Dylan and brother Donald Wright.
Services will be held August 31 1:00 PM at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Rd., Fairfax VA 22032.
