Charles was born to Ted and Olive Felgar with 2 siblings Geraldine and Harold (each of whom predeceased Charles). After Olive’s death Ted married Isabel and they had 3 children. Charles is survived by his siblings from this marriage, Dennis, Nancy and Maxine. Charles, also lovingly referred to as Charlie or “Chick”, is survived by his wife of 44 years this past March, Maria Felgar.
Charlie and Maria have 6 children in their blended family, beginning with the eldest daughter, Sharon Haw (Michael), Sandy Chandler (Steve), Susan Grant (Buddy), Michael Friday, Charles R Felgar (Brandy), and Maria Sulick (Bill). Charlie was also a beloved Pop Pop to his 9 grandchildren: Nicole, Collette, Anna, Luke, Jake (Charles), Logan, Cameron, Taylor, and Hannah and to his 4 great grands: Brenden, Kellan, Emme and Carter.
Charlie was a proud Marine Corp Veteran of the Korean War (1951-1955). In 2018, he participated in the Honor Flight Program and traveled to Washington D.C. with his son Charlie to visit the Korean War Memorial, a memorable experience for the family as we all were there to greet them upon their return. In 1955 when Charlie returned to Pittsburgh from Korea, he started working with his brother, Harold, in the trucking business. Charlie drove his big rig and hauled produce back and forth from Pennsylvania to Miami. During this time he met his first wife, and they ended up moving from Pittsburgh to Hollywood, FL. Shortly after moving to Florida Charlie decided it was time to change careers and he began working for Belcher Oil Company. In 1965, he relocated with Belcher to Port Canaveral and the family moved to Merritt Island. Charlie worked as a Terminal Manager for Belcher Oil for 33 years. Charlie enjoyed his time working at Port Canaveral and to this day the Port remains one of his favorite places to go visit. After retiring from Belcher, Charlie returned to his driving days first as a tour bus driver for the Kennedy Space Center’s Visitor Center, then delivering lobsters up and down the southern east coast of Florida for Mainly Lobsters, and lastly as a delivery driver for Hobbs Pharmacy (we referred to him as the drug runner). Charlie also worked for the family business, Snoedels, and was their number one doll packer (Sharon can attest to that).
Charlie and Maria were married on March 21, 1980 and they lived on Merritt Island for many years and during that time they even tried their hand at being farmers. Living in north Merritt Island raising chickens, pigs, and cows (fun times and too many funny stories to list here). Eventually, Charlie and Maria would move to Viera and find themselves in their Bridgewater community, where Charlie would take up Bocce (which he ended up being pretty damn good at) and having the community courts dedicated in his name. Charlie had a zest for life! He loved watching sports, everything from attending his kids/grandkids/great grands baseball, football, soccer, and most recently volleyball games to rooting for his beloved Miami Dolphins and Miami Marlins. He loved the years of going hunting with his brother Harold and also visiting a casino or two (the man was pretty lucky). And he LOVED family gatherings, at weddings he was a dancing machine. He showed us all how to enjoy life, even as he got older and faced many health challenges, Charlie never stopped singing a tune and never stopped showing his love and appreciation for life and family. We love you and you will be missed! The family is planning a celebration of Charlie’s life for sometime in August. In lieu of sending flowers, donations can be made in memory of Charles R. Felgar to the Disabled American Veterans Organization at https://tinyurl.com/49nkz9xf
