Martha Galvin was born November 21, 1917, the daughter of a pioneering California lawyer who moved with his wife from Boston to San Francisco, then to Los Banos, CA, and finally to Merced.
Martha was a devout Catholic who made her First Communion in St. Joseph’s Parish of the Catholic Church in Los Banos. She was a dedicated and devoted teacher for many years. She did not marry. She and her beloved brother, Stephen Podesta Galvin, resided together in Merced for many years. Martha loved to travel and she and Stephen and various of her many friends enjoyed voyages as mundane as periodic trips to Carmel and as exotic as a visit to Ireland and Europe. Martha loved to reminisce and maintained a remarkable, precise memory even in her later years. Her wry sense of humor never left her.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Mercy, 459 W. 21st St., Merced, CA 95340 on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 10:00am.
