Edward Umada, The Man, the Myth, the Legend, age 61, died peacefully at home on December 3rd, 2022 after complications from falling into a vat of radioactive waste that led to years of crime-fighting and a year-and-a-half battle with the nefarious supervillain named Cancer, who has been a scourge of our society for too long.
His superpowers included being a kind-hearted, fun-loving, jokester, who was always willing to help others whether they were family, friends, or foes. He would do anything to help even if it meant giving his sun-soaked and sweat-stained shirt to anybody that needed it.
Edward was born on May 14, 1961, in Bakersfield, CA to Manuel Umada and Julia Bejarano. He attended and graduated from Plainsburg Elementary School and Le Grand High School. He spent 40+ years working in agriculture, primarily working with pistachios. Edward had a strong love for God and his faith that he allowed to guide him throughout his life. In his leisure time, he loved spending time with family and friends, telling wildly inappropriate jokes to anyone that would listen, and annoying his wife and kids with terrible dad jokes.
Edward was also a member of the American Pistachio Growers (formerly Western Pistachio Association) and a member of the Sons of the American Legion. Edward, along with his son, was a loyal Dallas Cowboys superfan often having to fight back against the forces of the evil San Francisco 49’er and Las Vegas Raiders Empires. He was heavily involved in helping his children learn sports and helping them with their middle and high school marching bands with food, transportation, and anything else that was needed. He also loved spending time with his three grandchildren and watching them grow. He listened to many different genres of music including classic rock, oldies, Christian, Spanish, and some current pop tunes. He passed on his musical tastes to his children. He kept up-to-date with the latest movies but still preferred his Westerns and 80’s action movies, as well as enjoyed traveling and concert-going. Three of his most well-known superpowers were his super memory where he could remember minuscule details about events that happened decades ago like who he was with at a concert, what songs were played, and what he and others were wearing that day. Being charismatic was another great super-power since his family couldn’t go anywhere without him making a new friend (no matter what city, state, or country) and by the end of his conversation, his new friends would already know more about his family than we knew about his new friends. So, for anyone attending his memorial service that we do not know we apologize in advance for our wild sense of humor that we all got from Edward. He was also superb at giving people nicknames since he usually forgot their real names.
He was preceded in death by his father Manuel, mother Julia, step-father Lupe Sr., father-in-law Mike Miramontes brothers David, Ruben, Albert, and Lupe Jr., sisters Frances, Gloria, as well as nephews Israel, and Rudy, and nieces Victoria, Clara, and Erica. He is survived by his wife Lisa, son Edward Jr., daughter Serena, brothers Fred, and Daniel, and sisters Delia and Lupita. Mother-in-law Esperanza, brother-in-law Robert, Jesus, and sister-in-law Lydia. He is also survived by his precious grandchildren Nayeli, Shawn, Joe IV and as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and great-nephews, and nieces whom he loved so dearly, who will grow up to avenge their father’s and grandfather’s untimely death against Cancer. Edward was the true definition of a family man and will be greatly missed.
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held on December 17, 2022, at Templo La Hermosa starting at 2:00 PM. Following his memorial service will be a gathering at the American Legion Post 83 in the hall at 5:00 PM. He asked all in attendance to be a Dallas Cowboys fan for the day and support America’s team in Dallas Cowboys attire.
