Barbara Ann Stubblefield, known to many for her spunky personality, quietly slipped away from this world early in the evening of September 7, 2015 after a short fight with cancer. Barbara Ann Bigler was born November 13, 1925 to Paul Workman Bigler and Genevieve (Giddings) Bigler. Raised in Chicago (with many happy summers along Lake Wisconsin) Barb attended Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington where she met her husband of 69 years, Jack V. Stubblefield.
In 1953 Jack and Barbara pulled up stakes from Chicago and, with two young children, moved to California where they ended up in Oxnard for almost twenty years. After a short while in San Jose the family moved to and remained in Merced, California.
Barb loved doing things with her hands. She was always a great cook (her Christmas candies were the best). She took on many crafts that she excelled at and for the last ten years created many a beautiful project.
While mostly a housewife whose time was spent keeping up the house, the children and Jack, Barb also had a few interesting careers including a few years at the FBI. At one point she volunteered at Mercy Hospital and some may remember her from Beverly’s Fabrics in Merced.
Barbara will be missed by those she leaves behind, daughters Susan Allen (John), Cynthia Lauppe (Warren), Marion Stubblefield, and son Richard Stubblefield (Katie Brammer), plus grandsons Adam and Patrick Lauppe, and Eric Allen Wolak. Barb is also survived by her sister, Margery Sawyer and three nephews, Jeffrey, Carl and Alan Sawyer.
No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Yosemite Conservancy, Merced Theatre Foundation or the charity of your choice.
