In 1961, Charles temporarily left Rohr for two years to serve in the U.S. Army. They subsequently became original homeowners in the Springhaven community of Sun City, CA in 1997. Here, they were well respected and much-loved neighbors, always active in local activities. In retirement, Chuck had more time to engage in one of his favorite activities, bicycling. An avid cyclist, he explored almost all of western Riverside County, and places beyond. In 1992, along with a friend, he cycled 1500 miles from Phoenix, AZ to his home town of Savannah, TN.
