Wilma Mae Moore

Wilma Mae Moore went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, November 3, 2013, after bravely battling Leukemia. Her passionate faith in God and love for family and friends never wavered. Born on December 13, 1929, in Gideon, MO to Roxada Reece Beezley and Lee Reece, Wilma lived a life of wholehearted determination, selfless giving, and inspired creativity. A talented hair stylist in Memphis for 40 years, she was successful not only in her craft and her business, but also in the countless friendships she developed and maintained over that time. As a faithfully active member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Wilma’s generous spirit was both inspirational and incredibly affective. As President of the Altar Society, and later, President of the Ladies of Charity, Wilma set new standards with her unprecedented goals, fueled by her passion, ingenuity and tenacity, all of which are still a driving force in these organizations today. Suffering from the nerve disorder RSD could not even slow her down. She simply took it as another challenge and formed the RSD Foundation in Memphis as an outlet for those suffering from the same painful disorder, and also to raise awareness among the medical community in hopes of finding a cure. A truly gifted painter, seamstress, and cook, among so many other things, Wilma also expressed her love through her talents and creativity. Peaceful landscapes and ornate flowers meticulously painted, beautiful dresses and priceless play tents intricately sewn, delicious family recipes written down step-by-step were all priceless gifts that willforever be treasured by her family and friends. Wilma Mae Moore lived fully, loved tirelessly, and inspired constantly. Loving wife, and mother, cherished grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, she will be incredibly missed by so many including her husband, John Novarese Moore, her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Stan Smith, her grandchildren: Shannon and Jarred Pittman, Samantha Smith, and Lee Smith; her great-grandchildren: Reece and Smith Pittman; her three brothers, two sisters, and many loving nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends this evening from 5-7 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Poplar Avenue. The funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 5 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with entombment to follow in Memorial Park Mausoleum. Memorials may be sent to the Church Health Center.
