William Wesley Marlar, Sr., 89, of Memphis, went to be with the Lord November 2, 2011 at his home. He was born April 17, 1922 in Burnsville, MS to Arvie Luvina Jane Frost and George Washington Marlar. After attending public school in Burnsville, he voluntarily fought during World War II as a U.S. Marine I the Wouth Pacific at Guadal Canal, and served in the 1st Marine Division. He later became an officer for the Memphis Police Department where he served for 36 years, retiring as Captain in 1982. He was a 32nd degree Mason at Normal Station Lodge and was a greeter at Central Church for many years. He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Johnnie Bernice Marlar (Walker), his brothers, Abbie, Lloyd and Clytee; his sister Loyce Smith; step daughter Sandra Rogers Gullion; and grandson James Douglass Marlar. He leaves behind two sisters, Bobbi Kedzioria of Memphis, and Kathleen Polson of Covina, CA; a son, William W. (Bobbi) Marlar, Jr. of Olive Branch; a daughter, Janice (Dr. Charles) Akins of Memphis; three grandchildren, John Wesley Marlar of Mississippi, Shannon (Marc) Engelberg, and Amanda (Justin) Joy; four great grandchildren; and one great greatgrancdhild. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Poplar Avenue. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery
