Walter L. Day

Walter L. Day, 85, of Memphis, passed away on February 7, 2016. The family will gather to receive friends at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, and services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 1207 Peabody, Memphis, TN 38104. Interment will be on Thursday, February 11, at 11:30 a.m., at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on Forest Hill Irene Road, with military honors. Born and raised in Memphis, Walter graduated from Messick High School, and then he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Following his military service, he graduated from Memphis State University with a degree in accounting. After his retirement, he volunteered tirelessly, especially with Church Health Center and MIFA- Meals on Wheels. Mr. Day was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Egene Day; his brother, Bill Day; and his sister, Pauline Gower. He is survived by his son, David P. Day (Tina); his daughter, Laurie Harmon (Terry); and four grandchildren, Kyle Harmon, Dixon Williams, Corinne Day, and Cory Harmon. Lasting memorials in memory of Mr. Day may be made to the Church Health Center, St. John’s United Methodist Church, or St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.
