Veola Moore Battle, affectionately known as Granny, was born December 3, 1924, in the Ebenezar Community in Scott County, Mississippi to the late Charlie and Laura Moore. Veola accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age at Ebenezar Methodist Church where she also attended Ebenezar School. Veola later moved to Forest, Mississippi and joined Hopewell African Methodist Episcopal Church where she was a faithful member and held several positions. Veola also held several jobs including working at Sunbeam Corporation, Little Prince’s Meat Company, and as a housekeeper.
On October 25, 1947, Veola married Isaac Wes McCrary Battle and to this union three children (James, Earnest, and Leola) were born. She later moved to Bartlett, TN where she united with Wright’s Chapel AME Church (later New Wright’s AME Church) and was a member until her death. Veola enjoyed talking with friends and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
On Wednesday, July 19, 2023, Veola transitioned to be with our Heavenly Father. She leaves to cherish her memories two children: James (Jean) Battle of Harvest, AL and Leola Battle McInnis of Bartlett, TN; and one daughter-in-law, Martha Battle of Gary, IN. She also leaves eight grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation will be held Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 10:55 AM at New Wright's AME Church, 4591 Brunswick Road, Arlington, TN 38002.
A funeral will occur Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 11:00 AM, New Wright's AME Church, 4591 Brunswick Road, Arlington, TN 38002.
A burial will occur Sunday, July 30, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Ebenezer St. Peter Cemetery, Morton, MS.
