She was preceded in death by her mother, Ara Ellen Bell Warren (1982); father, Elliott Roy Warren (1995); and brother, Roy Eddie Warren, Sr. (2011). She is survived by her sister, Jeanette Warren Barbee of Houston, Texas; and nephew, Randall Wayne Ross and his wife Sabrina also of Houston; and her friends, Denise Tutor and all the staff at Pontotoc Health and Rehab, who took excellent care of her.
Shirley worked as secretary/bookkeeper for Star Wholesale Liquor Distributors in Memphis for 25 years.
Shirley was the oldest of three children and often played mom to Roy and Jeanette.
Her favorite thing to do was spend time with her nephew, Randy Ross, going to movies, country music concerts, shopping, going out to eat until he moved to Houston in 1980. When she was asked if she was married, she would say I don't need to get married I already have a son. She always considered Randy her son, and Randy knew if he wanted something and his mom said "no", his Aunt Shirley and grandmother always came through. She was happiest when she was with Randy and would say, “he is my heart”. When times were lean Shirley made sure Jeanette & Randy had food and clothing.
She enjoyed singing, country music, watching movies especially musicals, watching all kinds of sports on TV and reading her gossip magazines Globe, National Enquirer, People Magazine.
Shirley never married and lived at home with mom and dad until their passing. She was their caregiver when they became ill and could not take care of themselves. After her father passed in 1995 she moved to Pontotoc to live and work with her brother, Roy and his wife, Francis.
She moved to Graceland Nursing Home now known as Pontotoc Health and Rehab in 2013 and was living there at the time of her passing. She said all of the staff, nurses, aides, cooks, and especially Denise Tutor were her guardian angels.
Services will be private. She will be buried in Memphis Memory Gardens.
