Shani was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, and she was also an undergraduate of Tennessee State University & she was a graduate student of Howard University. Shani was also a distinguished Professor with Tougaloo College of Jackson, MS., and she was a Social Worker at The University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA until her retirement. Life after retirement Shani volunteered for the Memphis City Schools, Foster Grandparents Program. Shani leaves her: Daughter Barbara Brooks, Son LG Brooks (Sharon), Grandsons, Jabari Okoro & Michael Brooks, Granddaughter, Kenya Robinson (Jermaine), four great-grandchildren: Music, Kamryn, Brooke & Nigeria and a host of nieces, and nephews.
A visitation for Shani will be held Sunday, February 11, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Ave, Memphis, TN 38122, followed by a memorial service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
