Nathaniel "Ty" Tyrone Tate

Born in Memphis TN, he grew up with his mother Fannie Bonner, and his older siblings Roy Bonner, Jackie Richardson, and Eric Bonner. Growing up, he attended Independent Baptist Church alongside his family. He spent much of his youth at Grandma Katy’s house, and Aunt Wezi’s house. He graduated from Overton High School and attended the University of Memphis.

From June 27, 1991 - November 13, 1993 he served in the United States Military Army Branch as a Medical Specialist. He was honorably released in 1993 after meeting the mother of his children, Lydiah Wanyanga-Tate in Friedberg Germany, and having their first child, Shahid Wanyanga-Tate.

He would then go on to father 3 additional beautiful children (4 in total), Ayanna, Asha, Tariq, and Shahid. During this time, he worked in real estate and banking. He was a father to many, including his nieces and nephews Brandon Joyner, Jada Richardson, Kesean Garner, Brandon Garner, and many of the friends of his children.

Before sunrise on July 4th, 2023, he received his heavenly wings.

He leaves to mourn his passing: daughters , Ayanna Simone Cook and Asha Awuor Wanyanga-Tate; two sons, Shahid and Tariq Wanyanga-Tate. He also has remaining siblings, Jacqueline D. Richardson, Roy Allen Bonner, Eric Bonner, Terick Campbell, Emmett Campbell, Laura Campbell, Africa Campbell. He will also be missed by his father Nathaniel Tate, and Nathaniel’s wife, Carrie Tate.

His memory will be treasured by Brandon Joyner, Lashundra (Sunshine) Garner, Kesean Garner, Brandon Garner, Jada Richardson, Chris Bonner, Brandie Robinson, Briana Fondren, Erica Bonner, Erin Bonner, Eric Bonner Jr. Elissa Bonner, and a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He will be met in heaven by his mother, and his grandparents, along with OUR HEAVENLY FATHER

A visitation for Ty will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at M. J. Edwards Funeral Home, 1165 Airways Blvd., Memphis, Tennessee 38114. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, July 12, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, 1165 Airways Blvd., Memphis, Tennessee 38114. A burial will occur Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at 11:00 AM at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd, Memphis, Tennessee 38125.
