Nancy was born January 20, 1940, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the daughter of Joseph and Alma Mullin. Nancy grew up in Raytown, Missouri where she attended Raytown High School and was the senior homecoming queen. Following high school, she enrolled at Kansas University where she studied nursing and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
Nancy married Gary Kent on August 12, 1961. They lived in Barstow, California where she gave birth to her first child Sara Kent in 1963. They later moved to Quantico, Virginia where she had her second child Mike in 1964. After Gary left the Marine Corps in 1968, the family moved to San Diego, California where they lived until 1972. They then moved to Memphis, Tennessee and settled into a house in the suburb of Raleigh, where they raised their family. As empty nesters in 1987, they built a house in Millington, Tennessee. Nancy remained in her dream home until June 2020 when she moved to Carriage Court Assisted Living Community.
Nancy had a long and rewarding career. While living in San Diego, Nancy worked as a nurse. After moving to Tennessee, she worked in the civil service at the IRS and later as a medical records clerk at the Navy hospital in Millington, Tennessee. After the hospital closed, Nancy took a position as a personnel records clerk with the Navy. After more than 30 years of service she retired in 2014.
Nancy enjoyed spending time with her family. She and Gary would spend time talking and having martinis every night before dinner. They enjoyed dancing at the Officer Club in Millington on Friday nights. One of her favorite past times was shopping with her daughter Sara. If there is a Macy’s in heaven, you can be sure she is scouring the sale racks.
After Gary passed and she retired, Nancy became a huge sports fan. She loved to watch golf, keeping it on all day. Whenever you visited her, you would find the TV tuned to Golf Channel. She also liked to watch NFL football on Sundays, especially her favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs. She loved to recount the story of going to the first Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers. During basketball season, she watched her Kansas Jayhawks whenever she could.
Nancy tested positive for COVID January 12, 2022. She passed away from complications of COVID on January 26, 2022.
