It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Mildred Dolores Leonard Sinkular (Millie) on November 20, 2024, in Germantown, TN. Millie was born on January 5, 1946 in Taunton, Massachusetts, the first child of Carmen Velazquez Santiago and Allen Leonard. A few years later, the family welcomed Millie’s younger sister, Wanda. The two sisters remained close throughout childhood and even started their adult lives together as roommates in New York, NY. She met the love of her life, Mark Sinkular, in 1977 while living in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married on March 5, 1978 in Carolina, Puerto Rico and moved stateside shortly thereafter. Mark and Millie were blessed with two loving children, Ali and Derek.
Millie’s adult life was spent in many wonderful places from Mississippi to South Carolina making memories of a lifetime with her friends and family. She was generous with her time and spent most of her life caring for those whom she loved. Millie was a proud homemaker who could often be found in the kitchen preparing meals with care for her family and friends. She dedicated herself to animal rescue and instilled this passion in her beloved daughter, Ali. Millie was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Greenwood, MS and held tight to her faith throughout her life.
Millie lived a full and vibrant life from beginning to end and touched the lives of many people along the way. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Millie leaves behind her husband of 46 years, Mark Sinkular, her two children: Ali Sinkular and Derek (Paula) Sinkular; her grandchildren: Alex Sinkular and Kennedy Sinkular; and her sister, Wanda Lee Cooper. She is preceded in death by her parents.
