Margaret was born on October 18, 1931, in Marion, AR to the late Louise H. and Wilbur Woods Gilbert. Margaret lived in assisted living at The Village at Germantown for the past seven months.
She was preceded in death by Harry H. Jones, Jr. her husband of 21 years, by James F. Fletcher her husband of 15 years and her brother, Marvin Gilbert of Nashville, TN.
Margaret is survived by her three children, Howard Jones, III (Ann) of Germantown, TN, Judy Jones Bennett of Oakland, TN and Mary Jane Hamlett (Dr. James “Chip”) of Memphis, TN, eight grandchildren, Harry H. Jones, IV, (Laura) of Memphis, Jill Williams (Chris) of Memphis, Lee Stewart (Josh) of Memphis, Ben Bennett (Shelbi) of Germantown, Tony Bennett (Stephanie) of Atoka, Wes Bennett (Chelsey) of Southaven, Kathryn Hamlett of Nashville and Parker Hamlett of LaFayette, GA and 19 great-grandchildren.
Margaret attended A.B. Hill Elementary and graduated from Memphis Tech High School in 1950. She stayed active with her classmates planning reunions every 10 years. She worked alongside her husband, Harry Jones, Jr. in their business, Harry H. Jones Plumbing Company until his death in 1971. She became a real estate agent and worked for Crye-Leike Properties for 37 years. Prior to joining Second Presbyterian Church in 1982 she was a member of Galloway Methodist Church, Union Avenue Methodist Church and St. Matthews United Methodist Church. For 41 years Margaret has been an active member of the Chapel Class and her Circle. She was most proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren always attending every event they were involved in from recitals, concerts, sporting events to plays.
Margaret was the perfect party planner. Everyone looked forward to seeing her elegant creative and unique table settings. She hosted all family holiday dinners, baby showers, bridal and graduation luncheons, wedding showers and reunion gatherings, not only for family but for anyone she considered a friend or neighbor.
Family will receive friends for visitation at Second Presbyterian Church, 4055 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38111 at 11:30 am, Wednesday, December 13th in the Salmon Room. A memorial service at 12:30 pm in the Chapel followed by burial at Memorial Park.
