Margaret “Peggy” Crawford died peacefully at home on October 14, 2021. Margaret was born on July 14, 1932. She was the daughter of Emmet and Nell Bryant of Florence, Alabama. She leaves her husband of 67 years, Dr. Charles W. Crawford, sons Larry (Renee) and Charles (Alice), all of Memphis, and brother Rees Bryant (Patty) of Kissimee, Florida, sister Pamela (Howard) of Selbyville, Delaware, and brother-in-law Lawrence Crawford of Lubbock, Texas. She also leaves grandchildren Charlie (Alison) and Connor Crawford, Jen (Posey) Howell, Kristen (Brody) Broadus, and Sarah and Cristia Castle, and six great grandchildren.
Peggy was born in Lewisburg, Tennessee, and lived in Memphis and Florence during her early years. She attended Harding College and the University of North Alabama, studying to be a registered nurse.
Peggy and Charles married in 1954 while he was serving in the U.S. Army, and lived at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas and in Zweibrucken, Germany, until he concluded his military service. They then lived in Lewisville, Arkansas and Oxford, Mississippi before moving to Memphis in 1962.
Peggy was a selfless person, giving her life in service to her family and others. In addition to making a home for her husband and children, she worked for many years as a nurse’s aide at Methodist Hospital and HealthSouth Rehab. She provided a kind touch and hopeful word to many seriously ill and injured patients, and was acknowledged as the employee of the year at HealthSouth Memphis. She will be missed.
There will a small, private service at Memphis Funeral Home, followed by interment at Opposition Cemetery in Ravenden, Arkansas.
The family requests that any memorials be made to Memphis Union Mission or National Association of the Mentally Ill (NAMI).
All services will be private per the families request.
