Kenneth Garner Williams, 81, of Germantown, Tennessee passed away on February 13, 2023. He was born to Garner Stanley Williams & Josie Irene Williams of Ashland, Mississippi. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Guyton Williams, and a cousin who was like a sister, Louise Holliday.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wanda Akin Williams, a sister, Ruby Wylene Davidson, two sons, Kevin Wayne Williams (Keresa), Cory Heath Williams (Joy), and six grandchildren – Ben, Savannah, Jake, Simone, Ally, and Brody.
Kenneth Williams was born on March 23, 1941 in Ashland, Mississippi. Ken grew up helping on the family farm. He raised cattle and won ribbons showing bulls at the county fair. He played baseball and basketball in high school. Ken was the Valedictorian of his Ashland High School class and earned a Civil Engineering degree from Mississippi State University. He later earned a Master’s Degree in Engineering from Memphis State University. Upon graduation, he accepted a job with the Army Corps of Engineers Little Rock District. He later went to work for the Army Corps Memphis District and retired with 45 years of service in 2008.
He loved his family. He took great pride in supporting his sons and grandchildren in all sporting and school events. He was hard-working, patient, loving and kind as husband, father, coach, grandfather, coworker, and friend.
Family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Thursday, February 16th from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Avenue, Memphis, TN 38122. Following the visitation will be a funeral service from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the same location. There will be a short graveside service to follow in Ashland, Mississippi at Friendship United Methodist Church.
