Kathryn Helen Werner Mahoney of Athens, AL, passed away on October 26 after a lengthy illness. Kathryn was born and raised in Memphis Tennessee. Her parents were the late Margaret Werner and the late Valentine Werner Jr. She married Andrew Anthony Mahoney Jr. in 1936. Kathryn was also preceded in death by her husband. She was a homemaker and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great- grandmother. After raising her family in Memphis, Kathryn lived for 18 years in Greenwich, CT with her daughter Joan and moved to Athens, AL, in August, 2009 to be near more family members. Known affectionately as Mimi, she was cherished by her family for her fun-loving spirit, unfailing support, and consistent love. Kathryn also was a member of several parishes of the Catholic Church. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 30 in the Chapel of Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar in Memphis and the family will receive friends one our prior to the service. Msgr. McArthur will be the officient. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Memphis. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara V. Thurman (husband Don) of Huntsville, AL; Joan C. Mahoney of Athens, AL; a son, Michael A. Mahoney (wife Cheryl) of McKinney, TX; four grandchildren, Shelly Smith Johnson (husband Doug) of Athens, AL; Alex Smith (wife Carolyn) of Arlington, TN; Thomas A. Mahoney of Austin, TX; and Meredith C. Mahoney of Fort Worth, TX; two great-grandchildren, Ashley Pannell Stripling (husband Eric) of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Courtney Smith of Arlington, TN; and one great-great-granddaughter, Ava Marie Stripling, also of Tuscaloosa.
