He was born April 16, 1928 to Cecil Haynes and Dora Emily (Harris) Haynes in Augusta, Arkansas and was younger brother to William Cecil, Jr. and sister Betty Dora. He was president of his mid-term graduating class of 1945 at Tech High School in Memphis where he was both an Eagle Scout and 2nd Lt. in ROTC Company-A. He later served in the US Army Reserve during the Korean War. In 1949, he graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management minoring in accounting.
He began his career as supervisor of air freight accounting for Memphis-based Chicago and Southern Airlines, now Delta, and after working for Minor and Moore, CPAs he was licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in 1955. In public practice for more than four decades, he earned the respect of his clients, peers, and associates as an outstanding businessman with honesty and integrity. Many of his clients are still served by the office he established in 1957, now a third-generation business. He was a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the Tennessee Society of CPAs, and later named a "Golden Grad" by the UT Alumni Association for fifty years of service.
George was a long-term member of Bellevue Baptist Church where he served as a volunteer in children's ministry. He pioneered an outreach program for many years to teach Sunday School at several Memphis fire stations. He later joined Ridgeway Baptist Church where he again served as a deacon and was involved in evangelistic ministries to nursing homes and correctional facilities.
He now joins his beloved wife Judith to whom he was devoted for seventy-one years of marriage. He is survived by his three children George W. (Laarnie) Haynes, Jr. of Houston; Gregory M. (Janet) Haynes of Memphis, and Heather (John) Chaney of Los Angeles. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter: Preston, Astrid, Adam, Nicholas, Benjamin, Margaret, Knox and Nora.
Friends and family will long remember his gentle disposition and sense of humor. To his family, he provided a model of career diligence, spousal devotion, financial generosity, and commitment to church and community. All of us will hold dear the gift of his kind heart and life that exemplified his faith in Christ.

(I Thessalonians 2: 12)
Because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. (Romans 10:9-10)
