Dorothy Basden May, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed to her Heavenly home on December 18, 2017, having celebrated her 90th birthday in July. After marrying the love of her life, the late James A. May, in 1945, she enjoyed a career at Leader Federal Bank, then became the manager of the Townhouse Apartments on Central Avenue.
While also raising their two children, Linda Kiss (Richard) and Steve May (Linda), Dorothy (Dot) was a faithful member and Sunday School teacher at Boulevard, Cherokee, Council Road (OKC), and Bellevue Baptist Churches, and most recently at Ridgeway Baptist, where she was the beloved teacher of a ladies class for over 20 years.
She greatly enjoyed spending time with her five grandchildren, Major Kirk Crawford (USMC), Kristin Van Ness (John), and Emily Crawford, Robin Rye (David) and Stephen May (Nancy), and her nine great-grandchildren. She also leaves a half-brother, Tommy Basden.
Many were blessed by her gift of hospitality, her delicious meals, strong faith, positive outlook, encouraging spirit, and ability to find joy in life.
A memorial service will be held January 3rd at 2:00 at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave., with visitation at 1:00. Condolences may be offered at www.memphis funeralhome.net. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
