Darrel has been gone for 5 years now and it has been crazy here so I know he is much happier than he had been. I miss you my brother. I have dreamed about you a few times and it always makes me think you're not too far away. 


Darrel and I worked together at Cummins for around 10 years. He was great at what he did and was one of my favorite work mates. His infectious laugh and no BS style always cheered me up when I was around him.  We both shared the love of sports cars and talked about them enthusiastically when we had a chance.  Hope he is riding that big Harley in the sky!  

It was a while after you got diagnosed, but we finally got the chance to go ride together, and you got to show off that beautiful Harley...  Because of the leg pains, we didn't get to go as far as we would have liked, but just know that I was extremely proud to be riding next to such a great guy and a great friend. I remember your surprise when I showed up at the hospital, and then promptly went out and did exactly what you asked.... I took the rest of my rides for you or with you by my side.. I'll miss you my friend, but it eases my mind to know the pain is now gone and the Angels are by your side always...  til we meet again, rev it up...

I told Darrell , when we were 14 in jr high, that I was in love with his twin sister and asked for his support if I became her boyfriend.   He said it was ok, but I chickened out at the last minute because I did not think I was good enough for his twin sister.   Now I wish I had married her and become his brother in law.    Darrell was always a boy and a man of honor with great character and integrity.   I lost contact with the twins when we went to our big high school as I was too busy in athletic programs and being a straight A student all my available time.   They both turned out to be great adults.


N this is Ashley today who still speaks fondly of Grammy Darrel 

So sad we lost touch for awhile. We were good friends before n after marriage n usually stayed in touch. You were always in the back of my mind and hoping you were doing good. 
A couple memories that were special among many were when you gave my daughter Amanda away n of course you n Ashley (my Granddaughter ) who called you Grampy Darrel, Oh, n Roy who just loved seeing Ashley. He’d have her dance for him n at 4 yrs old she loved to entertain.   Ashley would get up at 5 am to sit n watch Fly Fishing America with you. You also taught her to color on the computer, where she’d sit on a booster  seat n color half the day away. 
Ashley loved Darrel Jr also. She kinda forced her way into the hearts of the Northrup men.  
We had a lot of fun times like cruises n weekends at June Lake ( hey DJ, remember the exorcist?)  Big Bear n Cambria you in the bar n me shopping lol. 
My all time favorite love story was Roy n Smokies. I don’t know how many people I’ve told that to n got them crying. 
Well I know you are enjoying seeing all your loved ones up there n free of pain, you had a long ride n I know that you enjoyed your life, so RIP Darrel - you’ll be missed.

I miss you my other half. You were my thing that ever happened to me. You were the best womb mate. You were always so beautiful and strong. You were the best at anything you did. We had a blast when we were young adults before you moved away. And I missed you so much. Now I have never felt such a loss in my life. I love you always my sweet brother. I feel you near me.

I knew Darrel from his days at The Recon plant in California. Darrel was always upbeat and had a smile on his big bearded face. He was indeed a big man in many ways. He always did good work with whatever he was asked to do and that is why he went on to a long career with Recon. I enjoyed his company and am sad to hear he has passed at such a young age.

RIP Uncle Darrell. You will be truly missed. I remember watching you play baseball back when I was a little girl., thinking you were the best and you really were. You could have gone pro. Then as I got a little older I was old enough to get on the back of your Harley and you gave me your really big  leather jacket and said put it on. We were on our way to Big Bear to meet my parents. I remember my dads face when we rolled up and I was about 10. It was the best trip I ever had to Big Bear. I really thought I was COOL. Then I remember you showing up for moms surprise birthday party I took you to Daddy Os, where of course all the bar maids loved you. Thank you for making me feel really special on that motorcycle that day since then I love guys with Harleys lol. Mom and dad weren't very happy though . Rest in peace Uncle, now everyone in heaven has the big ol bear bodyguard, You are truly missed and we love you always.
