Claude Edward Zobell, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all passed away Friday, April 12, 2024 from complications of Stage Four Prostate cancer that had metastasized to his bones including his bone marrow. He was diagnosed in 2017 and courageously fought the disease with dignity.
C.E. was born on August 23,1952 in Provo, Utah, a son of Claude Edward Zobell, Sr. and Clarissa Lucile Slaugenhoup. CE attended Timpanogos Elementary, Dixon Junior High and Provo High School where he served as editor of the school yearbook, The Provost, his senior year.
After attending Brigham Young University for one year, he served a two-year proselyting mission to Paris, France for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Upon returning, he became reacquainted with Molly Izatt who also served a proselyting mission to Paris, France. They were married on October10,1974 in the Salt Lake LOS Temple.
C.E. graduated Brigham Young University in Social Work and was accepted into the J. Reuben Clark Law School. Upon law school graduation, he found employment with the law firm of Harry M. Reid and Bruce Alverson in Las Vegas, Nevada.
C.E.'s work took him to Washington, D.C. where he served as Chief of Staff to Harry M. Reid when Congressman Reid won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. After serving with Congressman Reid for two congressional terms, CE returned to Utah where he served three years as Assistant Dean of BYU Law School. He then returned to the east again as a lobbyist for Nevada Power Company. He moved his family one more time-this time to Memphis, Tennessee where he became legal counsel for the famed Peabody Hotel.
C.E. held numerous positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Namely: Eider's Quorum President, High Counselor, Bishop's counselor, Bishop, Temple Ordinance Worker, Arkansas Little Rock Mission Presidency and Stake President of the Memphis Tennessee North Stake. However, his favorite calling was Gospel Doctrine teacher. He had the ability to teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ with great understanding and clarity.
C.E. is survived by his wife Molly Izatt Zobell, of Bartlett, Tennessee; children, Edward Alexandre (Erin) Zobell of California, Maryland; Daniel David (Jamie) Zobell of Lakeland, Tennessee; Michael John (Rachel) Zobell of Centerville, Utah; Elizabeth Anick (R-Jay) Ruiz of Richmond, Texas; Anne Catherine (Edward) Walters of Richmond, Virginia; and Allison Angelique (Tomas) Farnsworth of Provo, Utah; brother Charles W. (Marilyn) Zobell of Las Vegas, Nevada and twenty-three grandchildren.
C.E. was preceded in death by his father, Claude E. Zobell, Sr., his mother, Clarissa Lucile Slaugenhoup, and his sister, Charlene Zobell.
Services will be held Saturday, April 20, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, located at 4195 Kirby-Whitten Parkway, Bartlett, TN. Friends may call on Friday, April 19, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ at 4195 Kirby Whitten Parkway. Friends may also visit on Saturday, prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A private family viewing will be held from 10:30 to 11:00 on Saturday. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery in Provo, Utah.
