Ronald L. Wavrin July 31, 1929 - January 26, 2017 Ronald Lewis Wavrin, 87, of Medford, Oregon passed away January 26, 2017 after a brief illness at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, Ore. He was born July 31, 1929 in Edmore, North Dakota to Lewis and Anne (Koehn) Wavrin. Ronald met Mary Kuchar in Edmore and they married in 1951. They lived many places, finally settling in Medford in 1971. They raised six children, Tomas (Therese) of Medford; Barbara (John) Stewart of Medford; Susan (John, deceased) Wilson of Pasco, Washington; Robert (Martha) of Henderson, Minnesota; Anne Baker of Albany, Ore.; and Nancy (Dave) Levos of Medford. Ron joined the U.S. Air Force in 1947 and served in the 2060th Mobile (later the 6th Mobile) Weather Squadron. He studied meteorology and was stationed both nationally and internationally, including Project Cannonball in White Sands, New Mexico; nuclear weapons testing at the Nevada Proving Grounds; and on special assignment in Recife, Brazil. He joined the National Weather Service in 1957 as one of the first weather radar specialists and retired from the Medford office in 1984. Ron enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and the Yankees. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Ron is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary; six children; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; sister, Lova; and brother, Jerry. He was preceded in death by a brother; three sisters; and his infant daughter, Margaret. He will be interred at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
