Dorothy Ann McGruder McNeilly Walterick was born in Humboldt, Iowa to Ernie and Albina McGruder. She had one brother, Donald McGruder and attended school in Ft Dodge, Iowa. She received her nursing degree from Sacred Heart Hospital in Ft Dodge and was a practicing nurse in Iowa and in California.
Dorothy married Kenneth Andrew McNeilly on October 22, 1949 and they have five children: Patrick McNeilly (Karen) Gold Hill, Oregon, Ernie McNeilly Medford Oregon, Corinne Tremble (Glenn) Trail Oregon, Judith Tribbey (Ralph) Escondido, California, Brian McNeilly Findley, Ohio. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy married Don Walterick in 1991 after reconnecting with him at their 50th high school graduation. They had dated in high school. They loved to travel throughout the west in their travel trailer exploring old ghost towns, national parks, and especially the desert areas. They also took memorable trips to Ireland and Alaska where they snowmobiled near Denali National Park.
Dorothy loved to fish and often caught more than anyone else. She enjoyed playing the lottery and a good slot machine now and again and often was lucky!
Dorothy was proud of her Irish heritage and was a wonderful cook and baker. Her famous dinner rolls graced every holiday table and she made the best oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. She was also known for her canned spicy green beans.
Dorothy was a life long Catholic and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She had a special devotion to the blessed Mary and prayed for others daily and supported many catholic charities. She was a volunteer at St Vincent de Paul Thrift Store in Medford for over 20 years where she started and maintained their collectible department with her knowledge and love of antiques. She was an avid reader and instilled that love in her children and grandchildren. She had a green thumb and always had an amazing vegetable garden and the prettiest roses.

An interment for Dorothy will be held Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at 2:00 PM. A memorial mass will occur Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 8:30 AM.
