Florence Burwell Hannifan

Florence Burwell Hannifan, 89, of Richmond, Va., passed away on Monday, June 26, 2023. She was born on July 8, 1933 in Winston Salem, NC. She is predeceased by her parents, Charles Burwell VanHorten and Florence Martin VanHorten and her brother Charles Burwell VanHorten, Jr. (Norma).

She was a graduate of St. Catherine’s School in Richmond Va., and Southern Seminary in Buena Vista, Va. She worked for many years at Reynolds Metals in Richmond, Va.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathleen Lynn Seaton of Sandston, Va., her grandchildren, William Redford of Sandston, Va. and Sharron Redford of Midlothian, Va. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Britani Redford (Jay Franklin), William Pegram (Kristen Cole), and Christian Redford as well as two great-great grandchildren, Mila Franklin and Grayson Pegram.

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 3, 2023 at Mineral Baptist Church, Mineral Va., conducted by Pastor Tom Everett with interment in the church cemetery alongside her parents.

She will be remembered for her independent spirit, her love of Maymont Park and nature. She could be frequently found tending to her flower gardens and harvesting plums from her fruit trees to share with friends and neighbors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mineral Baptist Church, Richmond SPCA, or charity of your choice.
