Alice S. Vencill

VENCILL, Alice Jean Sutherland, 72, of Mechanicsville, Va went peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 29, 2019. She was born in Tazewell, Va on February 18, 1947, the daughter of Howard L. Sutherland, Sr. and Nellie M. Sutherland. In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her brothers, Roger L. Sutherland and Jerry W. Sutherland. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert M. Vencill; three daughters, Lisa Owens (Emmitt), Kimberly Helie (Mike), and Karen Capehart (Chris); four grandchildren, Hannah Traylor, Kaitlyn Owens, Courtney Owens, and Brody Bonesteel; four sisters, Nellie "Liz" Noel, Bonnie Stevenson, Linda Waddell (George), Wanda "Sue" Ervine; two brothers, Howard Sutherland, Jr. and the Rev. Bob Sutherland (Debbie); four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and 22 nieces and nephews. Alice was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of the Ashland Church of God. The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Spring Arbor Cottages of Richmond and Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care, love and compassion shown to Alice. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2019 at the Atlee Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, Va 23116. A funeral service will follow at the chapel at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Rick Dill and the Rev. Bob Sutherland officiating, with interment at Signal Hill Memorial Park, 12360 Hanover Courthouse Rd., Hanover, Va 23069. Pallbearers will be Chris Capehart, Mike Helie, Mason McCarty, Stephen Melton, Lavoy Myers, and Rick Vial. ** PLEASE DO NOT SEND ROSES DUE TO SEVERE FAMILY ALLERGY! ** In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Ashland Church of God, 407 Myrtle St., Ashland, Va 23005 or the Alzheimer's Association www.alz.org.
