William Felder of McGregor, passed away Friday, November 9, 2012, in Temple, Texas at the age of 94. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 19, 2012, at Robertson Chapel AME Church with Reverend William Forbes officiating. Interment will follow in McGregor Cemetery under the direction of Cole Funeral Home, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor. A wake will be held 4 to 6 P.M. Sunday, November 18, 2012, at Cole Funeral Home.
Mr. Felder was born February 9, 1918, in Moody, Texas, the son of the late Bernie and Bessie (Howard) Felder where he attended school On July 27, 1941, he married the former Eddie Mae Kemp in Oglesby. After sixty-nine years of marriage, she preceded him in death January 9, 2012. Following their marriage in 1941, he moved to McGregor from Moody.
During World War II, he faithfully served his country in the United States Army from October 7, 1942, until his honorable discharge October 24, 1945 as a Private First Class. His tours included Ireland, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. His decorations include the Good Conduct Medal, EAME Service Ribbon and four Bronze Service Stars. Following his discharge from the service, William became a member of the American Legion in McGregor.
He began his employment career with Amsler Hardware and Lumberyard, Cavitt Caufield and later Gilmore and Davis Furniture in the delivery department. After thirty-six years of service at Gilmore and Davis Furniture, he retired in 1982.
Mr. Felder was a long time member of Robertson Chapel AME Church where he served as a Steward and sang in a quartet which he traveled to many places. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Also preceding him in death was a sister, Adell Hall.
Survivors include two daughters, Doris Roberts of McGregor, Merdine Talley of Killeen; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
