Nancy Carol Charles, 82, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2020. A visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2020 at Cole Funeral Home in McGregor, Texas followed by a 1:00 p.m. graveside service in Osage Cemetery.
Nancy was born on October 13, 1939 in McLennan County to Emmett and Ozell Westerfeld. Nancy began school at South Bosque School in 1946. Later, South Bosque and Hewitt schools consolidated and built a school for grades 1-12 on Highway 84 in a vacant field, where the little girls played school during recess. Nancy said, many times, that her career as a teacher was born during this time. She graduated in 1958 from Midway High School and enrolled in Baylor University. Nancy was determined and believed “where there’s a will, there’s a way. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education in January 1962. Nancy taught in numerous schools, Comanche ISD, Yoakum ISD, Garwood ISD, McGregor ISD, and Midway ISD. While teaching she received her Master’s Degree in Administrative Education. After becoming a librarian at Midway Elementary, Nancy returned to Baylor, for two years of night school, and became a state certified librarian for kindergarten through grade 12. Teaching was the crux of her existence. She loved her students and her life was filled with memories of former students

Preceding Nancy in death were her parents, Emmett and Ozell Westerfeld.
Survivors include husband, Paul David Charles; many relatives; and thousands of former students.
