Charles Edward Mooney, 70, editor of The McGregor Mirror, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 17, 2021. Visitation will be Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Cole Funeral Chapel, 1113 West Fifth Street in McGregor from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with Rosary beginning at 7:00. A funeral mass will be celebrated, officiated by Father Albert Ruiz at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 24, at St. Eugene Catholic Church, 207 N. Johnson Drive in McGregor. Interment will follow in McGregor Cemetery.
Charles was a 1969 graduate of McGregor High School and 1973 graduate of Sam Houston State University. He was a 48-year member of the McGregor Rotary Club, served on the Board of Directors of TFNB-Your Bank For Life, and was an active member of St. Eugene Catholic Church.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents Bonnie and Thomas Mooney of McGregor, and mother-in-law Viktoria Ringler of Germany.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Claudia of 34 years, and their seven children: Jeannine Salas and husband Ignacio; Michael, Anna and Johnathon Martinez, Joseph and wife Hannah; Elizabeth, Teresa and Angelica; and grandchildren: Ignacio Jr., Sophia, Diego, Nicolas, Anthony, and Noah Salas; Soon-to-be Amalia Martinez; two sisters, Mynette Taylor and husband Gene, Bonnie Mullens and husband Jimmy; brother-in-law Konrad Ringler of Rottach-Egern, Germany; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
