Her surviving family is comforted only by knowing Karen has had a joyous reunion with the Lord.
She is survived by her loving husband, Johnny Mitchell; her sons: Hal Hutcheson (wife, Holly), Broc Hutcheson (wife, Allie), and Scott Mayo. She was a proud grandmother to Abbey Holley, Hally Hutcheson, Ellie Hutcheson, Blade Hutcheson, Brooklyn Hutcheson, Madison Mayo, and Gavin Mayo. She is also survived by Elliott and Nina Hutcheson.
Karen was married to Johnny Mitchell, with whom she shared much happiness and joy. He was exactly what she needed at that point in her life, and they cherished their time together.
Karen was also a talented painter, an excellent cook, and took great joy in working in her yard. She loved taking her dog Pepper on walks with Johnny and spending time with all of her grandkids, attending all of their games and activities. She was a very special and deeply loved mother. Her wonderful, loving nature was known to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She accomplished many things in her life, including serving as the secretary to the Dean at Georgia Tech for 35 years, a role she performed with deep professionalism and dedication. She developed many special friendships during her career, many lasting long after her retirement. An avid Tech fan, no game mattered in their household except those involving Georgia Tech beating up on Georgia.
Her sons are incredibly thankful to have had her in their lives and will deeply miss all the memories they shared together. Her family and friends will always remember her for her unconditional love and the wonderful person she was. Words cannot fully describe the impact she had on their lives.

The family will be celebrating her life with the hymn 'Amazing Grace'. Karen’s memory will be cherished by all who knew her, and her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
