George “Billy” William Sweat Jr., age 79 of McDonough, Georgia passed away Monday, July 25, 2022 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Atlanta on October 16, 1942, to the late George William Sr and Ressie Sweat. George is also preceded in death by his son, Allan Keith.
George is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sandra Pittman Sweat; children Louann Horton and James (Lynn) Sweat; grandchildren Allan (Summer) Sweat, Keith (Shelli) Horton, Jacqui (Eddie) Knight, and Kalyn (Brandon) Clay; great grandchildren Evelyn, Emma, Willow, Deacon, Mason, and Lincoln; as well as a brother and sister.
Billy joined the U.S. Army at 17 years old as a private, serving as an infantry officer and pilot in Vietnam. Eventually he retired in January of 1988 at the rank of Lt. Colonel. He continued to serve his community as a real estate broker and president of the Metro South Association of Realtors. He was an avid hunter, sportsman, and a member of the Masonic Lodge #37 of McDonough as a Master Mason. George enjoyed a good political debate and trolling people on Facebook.
The family will receive friends Sunday July 31, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Monday August 1, 2022 at 11:00 am in the chapel at Haisten Funerals and Cremations.
