Gary Marshall Clark

Gary Marshall Clark, age 88, passed away on May 16, 2024 at his family’s home in Jackson, Georgia. He was born in Atlanta, on August 20, 1935, to the late Hood Roper and Evelyn Elizabeth (Willingham) Clark. Gary was the middle of five children and only son, with two older and two younger sisters.

Gary graduated from West Fulton High School in 1953, and received his B.S. in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech in 1957. His graduate studies were at Harvard Business School. After graduating from Georgia Tech, Gary completed his U.S. Army Infantry Officer Leadership training at Ft. Benning, Georgia, and served active duty in Korea. While in Korea, he served as an Infantry Platoon leader and on the staff of the 1st Cavalry Commanding General.

After his discharge from the Army, Gary returned to Atlanta, and his job at Westinghouse. What began as an inside sales job at Northside Drive in Atlanta, turned into a prestigious 40 year career with the company. Job opportunities took him around the world, and led to living in cities across the US, from New York to California. Gary retired from Westinghouse as President and Vice Chairman of the Board in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His business associates remained some of his closest friends for the rest of his life. After retiring, he made his home in Naples, Florida.

Gary always considered 1957 as the year that set the course of his life, as many major events occurred that year. Graduation from Georgia Tech, beginning of his career at Westinghouse, his Officers commission in the United States Army, and he married the love of his life, Betty Sue Tyler.

Throughout his life, Gary enjoyed many interests, including hunting, fishing, gardening and photography. He had a great appreciation for Mother Nature and enjoyed spending time outdoors. His passed his love of these things to his children. His family was always the most important part of Gary’s life. He was a man of faith, who lived his life with Christian values. Many charitable organizations benefited from his generous contributions of time and resources.

His parents, and two sisters, Elizabeth Ann Brower and Jaquelynne Clark Deupree, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Betty Tyler Clark, children Suzanne (David) Allison of Jackson, Georgia, Sharon (Ted) Perri of Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, and Marshall (Amy) Clark of Southern Pines, North Carolina. Six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Paul) Stuk of Salt Lake City, Utah, Christopher (Katie) Duda of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, William (Carli) Dolfi of Bluffton, South Carolina, Katie (Mark) Bobbe of Golden, Colorado, Marshall Dolfi of Derry, Pennsylvania and Sarah Clark of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Six great grandchildren, Henry Stuk, Emerson Duda, Evelyn Stuk, Amelia Duda, Sadie Duda and Bea Dolfi. His sisters, Nancy Jo Clark and Linda (Pete) Herren, as well as many nieces and nephews also survive him.
