Mrs. Cynthia Leigh Davis Murphy, age 41, of Locust Grove, Georgia, passed away August 22, 2017. Born in Atlanta, Cindy graduated Summa Cum Laude from Mt. Zion High School in 1994. Always an excellent student, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Georgia in 1998 and a Masters of Arts in Speech Language Pathology in 2000 from the University of Memphis. Both degrees were achieved with Magna Cum Laude honors. She attained her Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech and Hearing Association in 2001. Cindy worked as a speech therapist for Great Rivers Educational Cooperative in Arkansas from 2000 to 2002 in their Head Start program, and in 2002 she began her career with the Henry County School System. Before joining the faculty of Unity Grove Elementary in 2012, Cindy was an SLP at Wesley Lakes and McDonough Elementary Schools. During the 2009/10 school year, she was selected as Teacher of the Year, a recognition rarely given to non-classroom teachers. She also did private therapy with Hearts and Hands Therapy Services from 2015 to 2016. In addition to her academic achievements, Cindy was a talented vocalist and pianist, an amazing daughter, an outstanding wife, a wonderful mother, a die-hard Dawg fan, and a terrific friend who touched the lives of a great number of people throughout her life. She is survived by her loving husband of 13 years, Seth; her son, Carter; her mother, Terri Davis of McDonough; mother-in-law Lee Murphy of Sharpsburg; fathers-in-law Thom Murphy and Doug McIntosh of McDonough; uncle and aunt Lee and Suzie Davis of McDonough; uncle Fred Davis of McDonough; cousins Tabitha and Bryan Anderson of McDonough; cousins Grayson Davis and Chelsea Davis of Griffin; cousins Jon and Kyndall Demarco of Hampton; cousins Kimberly and Zach Hasekoester of Hampton; and many other loving family members. A memorial service for Cindy will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at 5:00 PM in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home in McDonough, with Chaplain Oliver Cameron officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 PM prior to the service. Because purple was Cindy’s favorite color, please feel free to wear a bit of purple in her honor.
