Charlie Simmons was born April 27th, 1939, raised by an incredible mother, the late Fannie Simmons. He was the youngest of three having an older brother, the late Ralph Simmons and his sister Joann Simmons.
After serving In the Coast Guard, he married the love of his life the late Peggy Culver Simmons who he would be a faithful husband to for 53 years raising two sons Chuck and Donnie Simmons, serving as an Atlanta police officer/ detective for 35 years, and investing heavily in the lives of his grandchildren, hardly, if ever missing a soccer game, baseball games, birthdays or church plays. If it involved them, he was there.
He lived a full life and had countless stories ranging from his antics as a kid, his experience in the Coast Guard, his police stories with his partner Lamar Stapp, or the stories of raising his boys, one thing is certain He lived life to his fullness with a lot of laughter and certainly with great love. One of the greatest examples of that love was in his devotion to his wife and best friend of 53 years, to whom he lived out the vows “in sickness and in health” as he was her sole caretaker for 7 years until her passing.
When we recount his life and the impact, we recall the joy he brought and the countless ways he always showed up for his family and friends. We will miss him beyond words but with that, we have joy in knowing he is reunited with his Peggy who he has missed so desperately for the past 9 years.
Charlie’s stories will continue to be told through his sons and daughter in laws, Chuck and Cindy Simmons, Donnie and Jan Simmons, as well as his Grandchildren Ally Simmons, Matt Simmons, Sammie Simmons, Chris Simmons, Cody Simmons, Connor Simmons, Sarah Beth Simmons and Bogan Simmons. His sister Joann Simmons, brother and sister-in-law Dawn and Phil Culver Along with several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Charlie’s life and the way he lived it with such joy, fullness and love deserves to be celebrated. The family would welcome you to come join that celebration Wednesday September 4th, 2024, at Haisten Funeral Home in McDonough Ga. Visitation will begin at 11am with service to follow at 1pm.
Please join us in honoring with great joy such a great man.
