June was born in Raleigh, NC on August 8, 1939 to the late Vernon D. Johnson and Johnsie Mae McQueen. She graduated from Cary High School in 1957. After high school she went to work for a local bank for 10 years before moving to Jonesboro, GA and started working for the federal government. She retired after 31 years with the Dept. of the Army as a GS-11 Storage Specialist with the Military Traffic Storage Command (MTMC) at Ft. Gillam in March of 1997.
June loved the outdoors (fishing and camping) and her yard work of planting flowers and plants. She loved all the birds and enjoyed feeding them. She especially loved the company of her dogs (2 Alaskan Malamutes and 2 Great Pyrenees) who have all gone to heaven. June had recently gotten another Great Pyrenees to help calm her grandson’s Blue Tick Hound.
June is preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister-in-law Buddy and Joan Marie Johnson, her sister and brother-in-law Irene and Hilton Rogers and her oldest son Ronald L. Smith
Survivors include her husband Gary A. King of McDonough, her son Donny Smith of Jonesboro and her grandson Ashley Smith of McDonough and nephews Sonny Johnson, David Johnson, Hilton Rogers Jr and Danny Rogers al of Raleigh, NC.
The family will receive friends on Sunday March 25, 2018 from 4pm to 6pm at Haisten Funeral Home in McDonough with a graveside service to be held Monday March 26, 2018 at 11 am at Eastlawn Memorial Park in McDonough ,GA
