Roy Richard Ketcheson was born in Lansing, Michigan March 30, 1935, passing May 24, 2025 surrounded by family and friends. He was the son of Dolph H. and Vailintine G. (Ohls) Ketcheson and brother to Ollie, Robert (both deceased) and Dawn (Ron) Hanson. Roy is survived by his wife, Daun (Huyck) Ketcheson, the love of his life, son Scott (Shelly) Ketcheson, and daughter Sheri (Tim) Daniel. He leaves behind grandchildren Joshua (Erin) Jimmerson, Matthew (Deborah) Jimmerson, Lexi (Trevor) Anderson, Lucas Daniel, step-grandchildren Sean (Chen) and Barry Stroble and six great-grandchildren.
Graduating in 1953 from Lansing Eastern High School, he lettered in baseball and was a member of both marching and concert bands. Roy graduated from Michigan State University in 1957 with a Business Administration degree, completing the ROTC program as a 2nd Lieutenant. He served two years stationed at a Detroit defense missile site in Marine City followed by four years in the Michigan National Guard, retiring as a Captain.
Roy was an agent in the life insurance business for over 50 years, faithfully serving his many clients, earning the CLU designation from The American College of Life Underwriters in 1970. He served on numerous boards, committees and bell choirs at both Plymouth and Mayflower Congregational Churches and devoted eight years to the DeWitt City Council.
An avid hunter, Roy enjoyed many deer camps with friends and family and loved helping his children learn to hunt, fish, water ski and throw a softball as well as traveling the country with his wife and family. Many happy hours were spent in his shop building special wood projects for his family and friends, devoting part of the past 14 years to the R.J. Scheffel Memorial Toy Project.
Roy lived a life of service, faith, care for others, and a great love for his family and country. He will be greatly missed by all those who were blessed to know him.
A memorial service will be held at Mayflower Congregational Church, 2901 W. Mt Hope Ave., Lansing, July 28, 2024 with visitation at 1:30pm, celebration of life at 2:00pm followed by refreshments. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the R.J. Scheffel Memorial Toy Project, The American Heart Association, or The American Diabetes Association in his memory.
