Maxine Helen Fenger passed away from end stage dementia on Saturday, February 6, 2021. She was born on May 15, 1928 to Raymond and Clara Moore and grew up on Oxford Street in Dearborn, Michigan. In 1946, she graduated from Dearborn High School and then pursued a degree in teaching at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Prior to her marriage in 1962 to Richard W. Fenger, she taught second grade at Whitmore-Bolles Elementary School in Dearborn. Dick, as she called him, died in April 2015. Together they had 3 children: Lisa Fenger, Ronald (Laura) Fenger, and Steven Fenger.
Shortly after Steven was born, Maxine and Dick moved the family from suburban Allen Park to The Brick House in Somerset, Michigan. Although Maxine did not return to full-time teaching after her marriage, she volunteered as a room mother for her children’s classes and served as a Girl Scout leader for a time. In addition to raising her children, she sold Avon to women around Lakes Somerset and LeAnn, and enjoyed working at the Somerset Township Hall. In later years, she accompanied Dick on cruises, and together traveled to their home in St Augustine, Florida annually to spend the winter. In addition to her children, Maxine is survived by her two granddaughters, Maggie Fenger and Emily Fenger.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Mason Chapel and will be limited to immediate family only, but will be live-streamed for those unable to attend in person on the Funeral Homes Facebook page when the service begins. Burial will be at Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park in Livonia.
The family thanks the staff of Green Acres of Mason and Careline Hospice for taking good care of Maxine the past several years, especially throughout the pandemic. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice would be appreciated.
